How TEDxUCL Designs were Born

By: Ayne Zaharoff

When thrust with the theme ‘Perspective’, the team quickly brainstormed on possible ways of marketing this ‘see different, think different’ concept. From ideas of taking pictures with smart phones to a red carpet X at the Quad, we knocked our heads together for an hour or so until we finally agreed on the finished product’s concept.

The Perspectives logo:

Playing with the word ‘Perspective’, we wanted to keep the design simple and clean, without loosing the theme’s unique edge of course! The two merged ‘Perspective’ words symbolises the different perspectives that people have. Like the saying goes, another man’s trash is another man’s treasure – we at TEDxUCL are excited to celebrate these differences of opinion and thought.

On the other hand, the red ‘double Es’ are shaped like a semi-infinity sign – representing the infinite number of ways of looking at a particular topic or object. And if you look closely, you would notice that the same red ‘double Es’ do spell the word ‘See’. If you managed to catch that before, well done you!

The TEDxUCL Posters:

The large X in the centre is synonymous to all TEDx events – signifying the collaboration between the two organisations – TED and UCL. From afar, you would notice the bands of darker red running throughout the large X – but if you take a closer look, you would discover that the X is made up of countless ‘Perspective’ logos – successfully implementing the event’s theme within the well-known TEDx framework.
